A Japanese flute and a harp slowly give way to an oboe playing Sayuri's Theme. The excitement builds until it suddenly cuts off - leaving us with the violin rendition of the theme. Less nuanced than its source material, Memoirs of a Geisha may be a lavish production, but it still carries the simplistic air of a soap opera.
